America the Arrogant: The war, and Jeremiah Wright
America the Arrogant
I love America, it is my home. I have fought for this country, and was willing to die for it. But after my travels abroad and closing the door on ignorance through gaining education-I have realized that America has a holier than thou mentality that has to stop. There is a reason why people hate America, if you think it is because we are the greatest nation on earth then you are one of those filled with the pride that could led to the downfall of our nation. Ask yourself, what makes this, one of the youngest nations in the world, the greatest? What makes us better than all of the rest, whom which many of us know little or nothing about?
Let’s look at a few examples from some recent news events.
We are engaged in a conflict that is costing us 12 billion dollars a month while we are on the brink of a recession. It has already cost us nearly 4,000 of our brave soldiers, along with tens of thousands or Iraqi lives, but for what benefit? Because of it our country is torn, our economy has turned upside down, and we can’t take a step forward politically. And despite proof that Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11, we are still there, why? Because George Bush and his Republicans don’t want the radicals to proclaim victory over America, that is called pride.
My favorite one is of Obama and his Former pastor, Jeremiah Wright.
The media has painted a picture of him as Anti-America, and Anti-white, when all this man has done is preached the truth. It wasn’t forty years ago that one could evidently see the racial divide and conflict in this country, but now that it has been hidden, not erased, but hidden-white America has now gained the right to call people racist and bigots. The pastor correctly pointed out that blacks are living in a society controlled by rich white people, is he wrong? Have our minds as a society really been so convoluted that we would suggest that all is equal? The idea of affirmative action was brought to light by Kennedy in 61, could we, as a black people, really have caught up in 47 years after 400 of oppression? I think not. Ah but the media has turned this man into a racial monster, another attempt to diminish, what could be possibly the greatest thing to ever happen to this country. He also spoke up the attacks of 9/11 and the aftermath. I don’t believe there is any excuse to do such a thing, but could we actually believe that if we ignore the religious beliefs of a strongly religious based country those actions will go unnoticed? Or invade a country and attempt to impose our democracy on them they won’t fight back? These people aren’t terrorists; they are fighting for their way of life. But you can’t say that in public because then you get labeled as a hater of your own country.
We may in fact be the best nation, but it is when we hold our noses up to others by claiming that statement as a fact that we begin to alienate others. That is when the world begins to view us as arrogant, and ignorant.
We must do away with that way of thinking and explore the cultures of other races, cultures, societies and nations. But before we can make any inroads to our closed way of thinking, we must explore ourselves.
